Adult Horseback Camp

Here's your chance to begin riding, or sharpen up rusty skills in the company of other adults. Taught by experienced Certified Instructors with current First Aid/CPR, your three "camp days" will be filled with fun, information, new skills, and wonderful horses. Typical programs include:

5:00 to 6:00 p.m. Ground Lessons.
(horse psychology, grooming, tack, safety, leading, stalls, feed, basic horse health issues)
6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Riding Lessons in the Ring
(geared to the proficiency level of each individual student. Includes tacking up.)
7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Trail Lessons
(riding on hills, over natural obstacles like logs and streams, through woods. Includes untacking and turnout.)

What You Should Bring
- Raincoats (for rainy days only)

What You Should Wear
- Long pants and short-sleeved T-shirts
- Protective hard-soled shoes for stable area
- Sunscreen and insect spray that repels ticks (should
be applied at home).
- For winter camps please bring or wear the appropriate
jackets and gloves for that day's weather.

Gateway Stables will provide all campers with the required ASTM standard SEI 2 helmet. If you want to purchase your own "approved" helmet, we will provide you with the phone numbers of various local tack shops.

 

Camp Staff
Gateway is a member of the American Riding Instructors Certification Program (ARICP), Horseman's Safety Association (HSA)- (certifies the trail guides at Walt Disney World), and the American Medical Equestrian Association

Marie Jakubauskas, founder of Gateway Stables, is a certified instructor with the ARICP and a Master
Clinician with the HSA. She is the North East Coast Regional Director of the HSA's instructor certification program. Marie selects our riding instructors/counselors based on their equine experience, safety record, and certification.

Donna Park is the Camp Director. Donna has a Master of Arts in Elementary Education Administration. She has 28 years experience as an educator of primary age children.

Connie Stuckert, Instructor, HSA certified.
